Toddlers go to prison with their moms

Wow. I'm not sure what I think about this story, but it's interesting.

It's not so much a matter of the children going with the mothers as it is staying with the mothers after they're born to a mother in prison. Which brings up an interesting question: what happens to the children of mothers who are arrested after the children are born, but before they turn six? Do they accompany the mothers to prison?

Living conditions are probably the main downside. My first impression was that the presence of the children would be rehabilitative, and this seems to be born out by the article. As for the children, would separation from their mothers be more wholesome than the prison environment? Who knows... I do wonder if the women with children are at least quartered separately. But something in me wants to say that this is for the best. Hmmm...
