Erring on the side of the accused

Jonah Goldberg has a really thought-provoking article in which he points out that it's deeply ingrained in the American conscience that we always want to err on the side of the accused -- meaning, when there's a gray area, we'd rather err by let a guilty person go free than by punishing an innocent person. ...Yet that mentality flies out the window when it comes to abortion.
