A couple writes a cutesy story about their upcoming abortion in the New York Times

I found this article perplexing. It's from a few months ago, where a couple talks about having a romantic evening at home, the girlfriend not wanting to drink because she's pregnant, even though she has an abortion scheduled for two days later. The author writes: "Even though the pregnancy is scheduled to be terminated in two days, there’s still something — someone? — inside of her she doesn’t want to hurt." Unbelievable.

It reminds me of this article, also from the Times, where a woman writes casually about how she aborted two of her triplets, relieved that she won't have to shop at Costco. She writes: "I looked at Peter and asked the doctor: 'Is it possible to get rid of one of them? Or two of them?' The obstetrician wasn't an expert in selective reduction, but she knew that with a shot of potassium chloride you could eliminate one or more." Again, unbelievable.

Wow, both of these articles touch on some very intense topics. While they both represent mindsets that are shocking to me, it's good to be reminded that my perspective on life - how to live it *and* how to conceive it - isn't the only one out there. Thanks for sharing.

Note that the Supreme Court has found that "a shot of Potassium Chloride" is "cruel and unusual punishment" and thus illegal under the Constitution as a method of executing death row inmates because it is so painful.

One correction. Technically, the couple didn't write this story. He wrote the story. The article says they decided it would be only their business, and his wife was listening closely to his calls to make sure he didn't tell anyone. But then he wrote this article and threw her privacy under the bus. Why? Well, he's an aspiring writer, and getting published in a NYT is a boost to his ambitions. And apparently his career success is more important than her privacy.

It's almost as though he hopes to absolve himself by ending the story with "oh, now we're married."

The casual tone just makes me cry.

This sickened me. I literally felt my heart racing as I read each article. As you said, "unbelievable."
