I wanted to thank you for linking to SimpleMom.net recently - I've started reading her site and her archives and I've found a lot of useful stuff there.
On the whole budget issue, you might also want to take a look at YNAB. I like that it is a flat purchase rather than a monthly fee, and I think it is a nice piece of software. I actually heard about it from one of your commenters on your main blog a couple months ago. :-)
