Hi Jennifer, The study that this article references didn't actually trace a cause for the hearing loss. The pattern of loss was studied but not the causes.
Most doctors *suspect* that the use of earbuds is the primary cause, but a new study is being put together to determine that for sure. I've also heard theories that cell phones, especially bluetooth-type ear devices, might also play a role.
