They missed three of my favorites: The Desert Road to Turkestan and High Tartary, by Owen Lattimore, and Turkestan Reunion by his wife, Eleanor Holgate Lattimore. Lattimore was the son of a western trading family in China. When he wed Eleanor in the early 20th century, they decided for their honeymoon to travel the Silk Road from China to India. It's a remarkable story.
